Performing as members of the Melvins and staying autonomous as their own band, they have been there ever since. In 2006 Jared and Coady joined forces with the Melvins and moved to Los Angeles. Recorded by Dave Curran of UNSANE/PIGS/BIG BUSINESS’ LAST RECORD fame.įounded in 2003 in Seattle, WA., Big Business has spent the last 13 years touring the world and making records. But you’ve never had so much fun being crushed in the cogs of the universe’s great machine, that much is for sure! I mean, there’s no law against having a couple cold beers while we all burn in the fire of time, am I right?! Or it’s just a really great rock record, it depends on how weird you’re willing to get. It’s a haunting dream about the struggle for dominance of will over the power and unpredictability of nature. Recorded in Joshua Tree, CA, Command Your Weather sees Big Business return to its original two-man lineup of Jared Warren and Coady Willis. Sometimes, if you’re extra lucky, one version of the Melvins will open for the Melvins.Website | Facebook | Instagram | Spotify | APPLE MUSIC | YouTube | Bandcamp BIOīIG BUSINESS’ 5th studio album COMMAND YOUR WEATHER. Previous line-ups include a pairing of Osborne and Crover with Big Business band members Jared Warren and Coady Willis, a four-piece featuring the current trio plus Butthole Surfers’ Jeff Pinkus, as well as Melvins Lite, which partners Osborne and Crover with Mr. In 2012, the Melvins completed the “51 States in 51 Days” (50 states +DC) tour, which was chronicled in the film “Across The USA in 51 Days.” The current incarnation of the band is Osborne, Crover, and Steven McDonald (Redd Kross/OFF!). In fact, the band had the misfortune to be in both Christchurch and Tokyo for their 2011 earthquakes. Big Business have US tour plans in April 2019 after touring with Clutch. In the course of their discography, they've partnered with Jello Biafra, Mudhoney, and Fantômas for individual releases and toured the world many times over. Over the band’s 40-year history, they’ve released 30-plus original albums, numerous live full-lengths and far too many to count singles and rarities. Having formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington, the group founded by singer/guitar player Buzz Osborne (with stalwart drummer Dale Crover joining the following year), has been credited with merging the worlds of punk rock and heavy music, forming a new subgenre all its own. The Melvins are one of modern music’s most influential bands. I would absolutely see them and any other sludge/doom/experimental band here again. Buzz, Steven and Coady have an amazing stage presence that just felt even more incredible in this space. It was my first time seeing the Melvins (and like 4th time seeing Boris) and this was honestly the best place I could imagine to see them. The vibe was perfect, the sound carried amazingly through the entire building, and getting to be up close to the band while they performed seriously amplified the experience. The Band(s): I am a big fan of seeing bands like this in smaller venues. Also, security staff at the front of the stage gave us water bottles after Melvins since we were all a bit thirsty from all the shouting/cheering. I was worried they would just turn me away when I've been waiting for this show more than anything. At the door I unfortunately realized the camera I carry with me wasn't allowed, but they were really nice about checking with supervisers about the rules and letting me know I could store it in coat check. The Staff: Everyone was honestly super cool. I cannot speak to accessibility unfortunately. I was impressed with the layout, the amenities, and general atmosphere. The Venue: This was my first time at Varsity Theater.
